Your Child’s Dental Health
Your child’s regularly scheduled appointments for teeth cleaning and examination at Kids Dental Group are important to maintaining optimal dental health. An early start on dental care allows us to catch and treat any problems early. Issues with baby teeth can affect secondary teeth, so keep those early childhood appointments!
Clean, Healthy, Happy Smiles
Your child’s healthy smile starts at home. That’s why we spend extra time teaching kids to eat healthy foods and to brush and floss properly. It’s their first line of defense against cavities. Scheduling regular visits in our office is also critical for your child’s oral health. When they come in, we take a gentle approach. Our exams are kid-friendly as we do a complete dental exam, x-rays, and teeth cleaning.
Digital Dental X-Rays
At some appointments, we will need to take digital x-rays. These emit significantly less radiation than the already-low exposure of traditional dental x-rays. These images are necessary to visualize areas that are not easily seen visually. We can examine the roots of the teeth, tooth positions, and jawbones for any problems. Taking x-rays on a regular basis also allows us to watch the progression of growth and to monitor areas of concern.
White Composite Fillings
If your child has a cavity or a tooth that is chipped or broken, we remove the affected area and use composite fillings that match the look of your child’s teeth. Our patients and their parents find that this is more aesthetically pleasing.
Frenectomy
A frenectomy is the removal of a small fold of tissue (the lingual frenum) under the tongue. Sometimes this tissue can cause speech problems or difficulty with breastfeeding in infants. A labial frenum is similar except the fold of tissue attaches to the upper lip between the two front teeth.
Pulpotomy
The pulp is the soft tissue inside the tooth that contains the nerves. When a nerve inside a tooth is compromised due to decay and/or infection, pulpotomy therapy may be recommended. Dr. Elick will remove the pulp and fill the space in the tooth with a medicated material made to restore the tooth.
Oral Conscious Sedation
We provide oral conscious sedation to help alleviate the fear and anxiety many children associate with going to the dentist. Dr. Elick has 30+ years of experience in pediatric dentistry. Our staff is licensed and trained to accommodate all children, including those with special needs.
Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF)
This liquid can be brushed right on top of tooth decay without using a drill or local anesthesia. The silver in SDF kills germs that cause the decay and the fluoride slows down or completely stops the decay from progressing. It has been extremely helpful to us with our young patients that have a hard time sitting through dental procedures. It is safe and pain-free!
